The Council of Ministers involved in the Joint Electricity System for East African Countries (EAPP Council of Ministers-COM) has jointly agreed to have the proper management of various electricity projects in member countries, so that they can be completed on time and provide the citizens with sufficient energy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko has arrived in Kenya to attend the 18th Meeting of the Council of Ministers responsible for the Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP Council of Ministers) scheduled to take place on February 27 and 28, 2024 in Nairobi.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko, has stated that the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), with a capacity of 2,115 megawatts, has commenced operations and injected 235 megawatts into the national grid through Unit 9.
. More than 64% of all suburbs have electricity. . Dr. Biteko wants the distribution pace to match the demand.
“The Government's aim is to bring electricity to every citizen” said Deputy Minister of Energy Hon. Judith Kapinga has urged the leaders of villages, wards and townships to encourage citizens to connect electricity service to their homes in order to implement the Government's ambition to ensure that it delivers electricity to all citizens.
The Rural Energy Board (REB) which oversees the Rural Energy Agency (REA), has said that it depends on great success in enabling the Agency to fulfill its mission to deliver good electricity, oil and gas to the people in rural areas.
