The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new fuel prices, effective Friday, August 15, 2025. In its latest review released on Thursday, August 14, the regulator reduced the cost of super petrol and kerosene by KSh 1 per litre, while the price of diesel will remain unchanged for the next 30 days.
EPRA stated that the maximum allowable pump prices for super petrol and kerosene have each decreased by KSh 1.00 per litre. However, the unchanged diesel price means consumers using the fuel for transport, agriculture, and industry will not see any immediate cost relief.
The announcement has drawn strong reactions from Kenyans on social media. Many criticised the regulator for the minimal reduction, arguing that the KSh 1 drop was negligible and did little to ease the burden of high living costs. The phrase “Mchezo ya Town” quickly trended online, reflecting public frustration over what they perceive as token price adjustments.
Fuel prices remain a sensitive issue in Kenya, influencing the cost of transport, food, and essential goods. As global oil market volatility continues, Kenyans are calling for more substantial interventions to bring down pump costs and offer real relief to households and businesses.
