On October 14, 2026, Norwegian energy company Equinor announced the Grimsnes oil and gas discovery in the North Sea, near the Oseberg field, approximately 145 kilometers west of Bergen. The discovery, made in partnership with Petoro and TotalEnergies, is estimated to contain between 19 and 50 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Equinor plans to connect Grimsnes to existing subsea facilities and transport production through the Oseberg South platform. This approach could reduce development costs, shorten project timelines, and avoid the need to build entirely new production infrastructure.
The partners expect to make an investment decision in summer 2027, with production potentially beginning around 2029. However, the timeline and commercially recoverable resources will depend on further technical assessments and project approvals.
