Members of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), in collaboration with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), conducted a joint inspection visit to assess the implementation of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project. The visit aimed to ensure that the construction progress aligns with international standards and environmental safety requirements. This inspection reflects a strong commitment to regulatory compliance and regional cooperation in energy infrastructure development.

On July 11, 2025, the delegation visited key project sites including the crude oil pump station, main workers’ camp, and the pipe storage facility in Igunga, Tabora Region, as well as the thermal insulation system plant located in Sojo village, Nzega District. These areas are critical for the functionality of the EACOP project. The visit provided real-time insights into ongoing construction work, demonstrating active progress and the importance of quality assurance at every stage.

Mr. Ngosi Mwihava, a board member of EWURA and Chairperson of the Energy Committee, stated that the project is progressing well and that it adheres to regulatory frameworks and international environmental standards. He emphasized the importance of strict monitoring to ensure environmental protection and technical compliance throughout the project's execution. This ensures the project benefits the entire nation without compromising ecological integrity.

Mr. Mwihava further affirmed that EWURA will continue to enforce compliance among contractors, stressing that any deviation from the guidelines will be addressed accordingly. “EWURA will take necessary action in case of any violations to ensure the project delivers national value,” he said. This stance underscores EWURA’s role in safeguarding public interest and promoting sustainable development in the oil and gas sector.
