The FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company (FIRST E&P) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) to assess and potentially develop the Mnazi Bay North block in southern Tanzania. The signing ceremony, held at TPDC headquarters in Dodoma, marks a strategic move toward strengthening regional energy development in sub-Saharan Africa.

By fully funding the technical assessment phase, FIRST E&P signals strong confidence in the gas prospects of the block and commits to long-term energy growth in Tanzania. The partnership aims to progress toward a license agreement and transform the block into a high-yield producing asset.

FIRST E&P CEO, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, emphasized the company's success in Nigeria and its vision to expand into new markets like Tanzania, citing the country’s hydrocarbon potential and its strategic location as an energy hub. He believes the collaboration can drive regional energy security and access.

TPDC Managing Director, Mussa Makame, underscored the importance of transitioning from biomass to gas for better health and environmental outcomes. He praised the partnership as a model for African-led development and energy independence.
