The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced the official cap prices for petroleum products for December 2025, reflecting a continued decline in petrol prices. The drop is mainly attributed to reduced premiums at the Dar es Salaam Port—down by an average of 2.4% for petrol and 3.6% for kerosene. Premiums for petroleum products at Tanga and Mtwara Ports remain unchanged, indicating that price movements will largely affect supplies offloaded in Dar es Salaam

EWURA’s Director General, Dr. James Mwainyekule, has outlined the new retail price caps, showing a petrol price decrease of 2.38 shillings in Dar es Salaam, 2.26 shillings in Tanga, and 2.45 shillings in Mtwara. Additionally, kerosene prices in Dar es Salaam have been reduced by 120.48 shillings compared to November 2025. These price adjustments highlight the impact of reduced importation costs on domestic fuel markets.

According to the new cap rates, petrol will retail at 2610.10 shillings in Dar es Salaam, 2616.13 shillings in Tanga, and 2616.24 shillings in Mtwara for December 2025. Diesel prices are set at 2639.54 shillings for Dar es Salaam, 2648.86 for Tanga, and 2654.32 for Mtwara. Kerosene prices in Dar es Salaam stand at 2513.87 shillings, with Tanga and Mtwara maintaining their previous prices. These adjustments reflect varying operational and importation factors across the ports.

EWURA has emphasized that all fuel retailers must issue receipts generated from an Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) for every sale. Consumers are urged to demand and keep these receipts as proof of purchase in case of disputes. Moreover, petrol stations are required to visibly display price boards showing fuel prices, discounts, and any promotions. Failure to comply with these requirements constitutes an offence and may attract punitive action from EWURA.
