JORDAN BUILD A REGASIFICATION UNIT.

Jordan is taking a significant step toward securing a stable and permanent energy supply by building a regasification unit, which converts liquefied gas back into its natural form. This initiative aims to prevent any emergency crises that could disrupt the electricity sector or impact the reliability of energy supplies for its citizens.

In line with this, the Aqaba Development Company signed an agreement on August 20, 2024, with a consortium of international companies, "AG&P International" and "BTE & Gas Intech," to develop the Sheikh Sabah LNG Port. The agreement, represented by Aqaba Development Company's CEO Hussain Safadi, includes the construction of a floating regasification unit and the enhancement of the existing LNG port infrastructure.

The new regasification unit is expected to replace the current leased unit, which is currently used by Egypt under a joint agreement with Jordan. In July 2024, Egypt initiated a study for the joint manufacture of a floating regasification unit with Jordan, potentially leading to a future partnership for the new facility.

Jordan and Egypt are also exploring the purchase of a joint regasification ship to support both countries' needs for liquefied gas. This ship would regasify imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) for use in power plants and industries. In a strategic move to prevent power shortages, Egypt began purchasing LNG shipments in 2024, which are being processed at the Aqaba gasification plant in Jordan and transported to Egypt through pipelines.
