Kenya plans to launch an oil and gas exploration round for 10 blocks in September, aiming to attract investors into its hydrocarbon sector. This initiative offers a transparent and merit-based process for exploring Kenya's oil and gas potential, according to Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

The government is also offering tax and other incentives to attract investors to the sector. In addition, Kenya is investing in infrastructure to support exploration and development, further bolstering its energy industry.

Despite having oil and gas resources, Kenya’s development efforts have faced setbacks, particularly after Tullow Oil struggled to secure investors for the South Lokichar project. The withdrawal of key partners such as TotalEnergies and Africa Oil has complicated Kenya's goal of becoming a petroleum-exporting nation.

To address these challenges, the government has restructured its petroleum exploration blocks to align with global best practices. The restructuring has helped identify ten promising blocks based on scientific and geological data, with the hope of revitalizing the country’s oil and gas industry.
