The latest issue of the "Oil and Arab Cooperation" magazine, published by the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), examines the impacts of decarbonization and the circular carbon economy in the oil and gas sectors of Arab countries.

This quarterly publication, issued by the General Secretariat of OAPEC, in its new edition (Issue 189), covers the most recent research and reports concerning the oil industry. According to the Washington-based Specialized Energy Platform, "Oil and Arab Cooperation" focuses on oil, gas, and energy matters, attracting both Arab and international experts to publish their research and foster scientific collaboration.

The OAPEC magazine encourages innovative research, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and culture related to petroleum and energy, and keeping up with scientific developments in the oil industry. The new issue includes two studies: one on decarbonization in OAPEC countries and another on Africa's emerging role in the oil industry, along with a report on the 43rd Oxford Energy Symposium. The journal aims to publish research that enhances Arab economic thought and serves as a reference for researchers on recent publications in the oil, gas, and energy sectors.

The study "The Carbon and Circular Economy of Oil and the Implications for OAPEC Countries," prepared by Lamia Abu Shahba, Wahba Nasr, Yahya Nassar, and Enas Zahran, emphasizes the global necessity of decarbonization to combat global warming. This award-winning research advocates for the adoption of decarbonization principles and a circular carbon economy in the oil and gas sector, urging OAPEC countries to develop a sustainable low-carbon energy roadmap. The study proposes various strategies, including improving energy efficiency, increasing reliance on renewable energy, investing in carbon capture and storage technologies, and diversifying energy sources to reduce fossil fuel dependence. It highlights the importance of tailoring decarbonization strategies to the unique conditions and capabilities of each country, offering a comprehensive analysis of relevant indicators such as reserves, consumption, emissions, and renewable energy usage in the OAPEC region.
