The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Oil and Gas, Dr. James Mataragio, has directed the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) company to accelerate the delivery of community service projects by allocating more funding to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
During a visit to Geita Region, Dr. Mataragio emphasized that EACOP must ensure communities living near the project sites benefit through improved access to water, roads, schools, and hospitals.
While acknowledging EACOP’s steady project progress, he urged the company to develop a more strategic approach to CSR to ensure meaningful impact on surrounding populations.
EACOP’s Pump Station 4 manager confirmed that the company has identified community needs and is preparing to implement its CSR strategy, as part of the ongoing 1,443 km pipeline project jointly owned by Tanzania and Uganda.
