Oryx Gas Tanzania Ltd (OGTL) is urging Tanzanians to protect the environment by adopting clean cooking energy that doesn’t harm forests. During a World Environment Day event at Kisiwani Primary School in Dar es Salaam, the company organized a school-wide cleanup and donated waste bins, highlighting that switching from firewood and charcoal to gas is crucial to stop deforestation and preserve Tanzania’s valuable forest cover.
The company’s Clean Cooking Energy Project Manager, Mr. Peter Ndomba, stressed the importance of educating young children about environmental conservation and the safe use of gas. He emphasized that teaching kids now builds a future generation that truly values clean energy and will spread these lessons at home.
Tanzania still has significant forest reserves compared to many other countries, but continued cutting for cooking fuel threatens this natural wealth. Oryx Gas highlighted that clean cooking energy is a practical and affordable alternative that reduces deforestation and supports the government’s drive for environmental sustainability.
The school’s headteacher praised Oryx Gas for its partnership in improving the school environment and encouraging the community to adopt cleaner energy solutions. Students pledged to become ambassadors for environmental protection, proving that community involvement is essential to preserving Tanzania’s environment for generations to come.
