Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the potential for Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) to collaborate for mutual growth in the oil and gas industry. As the finance minister, Anwar highlighted the importance of Petronas being recognized as a national body while ensuring its contractual obligations are respected. He also urged Petronas to support Petros in becoming a significant player in the industry.

Speaking at a press conference, Anwar described his engagements with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg as "excellent," signaling a cooperative relationship between federal and state leadership. Addressing the ongoing discussions on gas distribution, Anwar stated the goal is to achieve an amicable resolution, underlining the commitment of both parties to find common ground.

Discussions between Petronas and Petros regarding gas distribution were reportedly settled as of Dec 12, with the government now refining the details, parameters, and legal implications of the agreement. Anwar noted that a productive discussion with Abang Johari had led to a clear decision on the matter, reaffirming the importance of collaboration in addressing industry challenges.

Abang Johari, in a prior statement to TV Sarawak, expressed optimism about the resolution, noting the gas distribution issue was effectively settled while awaiting an official announcement. The Sarawak premier deferred to the prime minister to disclose the distribution formula details, signaling confidence in the federal government’s leadership in finalizing the agreement.
