Rwanda National Energy Company (RNEC) and Gulf Bulk Petroleum Tanzania Limited (GBP) have signed an agreement to facilitate the importation and storage of bulk refined petroleum products through Tanzania's Port of Tanga. The deal is part of Rwanda's strategy to strengthen fuel supply security by expanding access to multiple regional import corridors and reducing reliance on a single route.

The agreement follows Rwanda's recent petroleum import arrangement with Kenya and reinforces the country's approach of utilizing both the Central Corridor through Tanzania and the Northern Corridor through Kenya. By diversifying its supply routes, Rwanda aims to improve the reliability of fuel imports, enhance energy security, and support growing domestic demand.

The partnership also highlights Tanzania's growing role as a regional energy and logistics hub. Using the Port of Tanga will provide Rwanda with additional import and storage capacity while strengthening trade and energy cooperation between the two neighboring countries, contributing to more efficient petroleum supply chains across East Africa
