Kibo Energy Plc has announced that it has entered into a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with an unnamed customer for a 2.7MW waste-to-energy (WtE) project in South Africa. According to Kibo’s CEO Louis Coetzee, this is the first in a pipeline of projects under the company’s WtE portfolio.

“This PPA will guarantee revenue generation over the next ten years, with the potential to realise significant additional revenue from the sale of heat and other by-products and the potential to expand up to a facility of 8 MW after 24 to 26 months,” Coetzee said.

The initial project’s total cost is estimated at around USD 11.8m, and a financial close is expected to be reached in the third quarter of the year. Construction is expected to begin in the final quarter of 2022, and it will be handled by EPC contractor Lesedi.
