In recent months, Iran's gas production has seen a significant boost, largely driven by the South Pars complex, as part of the country's efforts to meet domestic demand.

According to global gas production data from the Washington-based Specialty Energy Platform, gas production increased by 2% in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year. Iran's fiscal year runs from March 21 to March 20, and the South Pars complex plays a crucial role in this growth.

The complex, which is operated by South Pars Gas, a subsidiary of the National Iranian Gas Company, includes 13 refineries. These refineries have been gradually developed over the past 27 years, following the complex's operational start in October 1998. The production capacity of the South Pars complex has steadily increased over time, significantly contributing to the country's gas output and energy security.

From March 20 of last year to January 19, the South Pars complex supplied approximately 165 billion cubic meters of gas to Iran's national gas network. This figure marks a 2% increase over the same period the previous fiscal year, according to the Iranian oil news agency Shana.

In addition to natural gas, the complex also produced over 2 million tonnes of butane, 3 million tonnes of propane, 1.5 million tonnes of ethane, and 201 million barrels of condensate, supporting both energy production and industrial processes.

The complex’s role extends beyond gas production, as it also supplies gas condensates to various refineries. For example, it provided about 127.2 million barrels to the Gulf Star refinery and around 3.5 million barrels to the Nouri petrochemical plant. The recent production increase aligns with efforts to stabilize output during the high-demand winter season.

Additionally, the South Pars field, shared with Qatar, has been further developed with additional drilling rigs to increase output. These efforts are expected to continue over the next few years, ensuring the country can meet its growing energy demands.
