Tanzania is seeking to strengthen cooperation with Algeria in the fields of oil and gas, electricity, training, and research as part of efforts to enhance capacity development in the energy sector. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Tanzania’s Ambassador to Algeria, Iman Njalikai, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ouargla, Prof. Halilat Med Tahar.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in key areas including petroleum exploration, artificial intelligence, and technical training. The University of Ouargla is recognized for its strong oil and gas programmes, offering both theoretical and practical expertise, and is strategically located in one of Algeria’s major hydrocarbon-producing regions.
Both sides agreed to fast-track the finalisation of cooperation agreements between the University of Ouargla and Tanzanian institutions, particularly the University of Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar State University (SUZA). The partnerships are expected to facilitate training programmes, joint research, and academic exchange visits in priority sectors critical to Tanzania’s development agenda.
During the visit, Ambassador Njalikai also toured the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages, where discussions were held with Dean Prof. Houcine Dahou and faculty leaders. The two sides agreed to advance academic collaboration by finalising draft agreements to enable broader institutional cooperation beyond the energy sector.
