The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) of Tanzania has engaged in high-level talks with Algeria’s National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) to enhance cooperation in oil and gas regulation. The meeting, held in Algiers on Sunday, September 7, 2025, was attended by ALNAFT President Samir Bekhti, while PURA was represented by Shigela Malosha on behalf of Director General Engineer Charles Sangweni.

Malosha emphasized that collaboration between PURA and ALNAFT will improve efficiency in supervising and regulating oil and gas exploration and production activities, while also driving growth in upstream petroleum operations. He highlighted that the exchange of experiences, training, and capacity building will serve as a strong foundation for both regulators to strengthen their performance.

ALNAFT President Samir Bekhti echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership is of strategic importance given the shared responsibilities of both institutions in managing upstream petroleum resources. He stressed that Algeria and Tanzania stand to benefit mutually from this exchange of knowledge and expertise.

The two institutions agreed to cooperate in several areas, including regulation and oversight of oil and gas exploration, petroleum data management, local content participation, and the development of policies and legal frameworks. This partnership is expected to boost both countries’ capacities to effectively manage their hydrocarbon resources.
