Motorists and households in Tanzania will enjoy lower pump prices in September 2025 after the Tanzania Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (EWURA) announced revised rates. Effective September 3, super petrol will retail at TSh 2,807 (KSh 145), diesel at TSh 2,754 (KSh 142), and kerosene at TSh 2,774 (KSh 143) per litre.

EWURA attributed the price drop to declining global oil prices and a 3.96% improvement in the exchange rate, which helped ease cost pressures. Free on Board (FOB) prices in the Gulf nations fell by 0.2% for petrol, 5.5% for diesel, and 3.5% for kerosene, creating relief for Tanzanian consumers at the pump.

Meanwhile, Kenyan motorists continue to face higher fuel costs, despite slight adjustments in August. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reduced petrol and kerosene prices by just KSh 1, leaving petrol at KSh 185.31 per litre and kerosene at KSh 155.58. Diesel prices remained unchanged at KSh 171.58, far higher than in Tanzania.

The contrast comes after EPRA’s July hike, which raised fuel prices by up to KSh 9 per litre, citing sharp increases in landed costs. This leaves Kenya’s pump prices significantly higher compared to Tanzania, where strategic policy measures and global price shifts are cushioning consumers.
