The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, has announced that the Ministry is currently implementing seven strategic energy projects aimed at boosting energy production and driving national economic growth. He made the remarks during the launch of the Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) Program in areas covered by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Project.
Among the projects highlighted were the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project, as well as oil and electricity exploration projects in Rumakali, Ruhudji, and Mnazi Bay North. Mramba confirmed that the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, which generates 2,115 megawatts, is already supplying electricity to the national grid. He added that the EACOP Project has reached 65 percent completion, while the LNG Project is in its final preparation stage.
The Permanent Secretary further revealed that the Government of Tanzania has already contributed 1.12 trillion shillings as equity in the EACOP Project. More than 200 Tanzanian companies are also involved in the project, with an expected payout of 1.325 trillion shillings for their participation.
He emphasized that beyond the economic benefits, communities located along energy project corridors—especially the EACOP route—will also gain access to electricity in their homes, thereby boosting community development and improving livelihoods.
