The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has urged Puma Energy to increase its investment in Tanzania’s energy infrastructure by setting up more compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations nationwide. Speaking after a meeting with Puma Energy’s Global CEO, Mark Russell, in Dodoma, Dr. Biteko stressed the need to enhance access to alternative fuels and clean energy solutions for Tanzanians. “The government is committed to working with Puma to expand energy access and promote sustainability,” he stated.
Dr. Biteko further encouraged Puma to invest in clean cooking energy, aligning with the government’s broader energy strategy. He praised the company’s ongoing efforts to localize its operations by promoting Tanzanian talent to senior leadership roles, reinforcing the importance of inclusive growth in the energy sector. “We value Puma’s support in providing high-quality products and building local capacity,” he emphasized, pointing to the mutual benefits of deepened public-private collaboration.
Puma Energy’s CEO, Mark Russell, revealed that the company has already committed over $24 million to the construction of three new gas filling stations for vehicles. These stations, set to be built in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, mark a significant step in expanding Tanzania’s CNG infrastructure. “We are committed to supporting Tanzania’s clean energy agenda with meaningful investments,” said Russell, underscoring the company’s strategic alignment with national goals.
As a key player in Tanzania’s fuel retail market, Puma Energy offers a diverse range of services, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), retail fuel, and commercial energy solutions. With a growing presence in clean energy initiatives, the company plays a vital role in advancing Tanzania’s transition to sustainable energy systems. The government’s call for expanded collaboration is expected to accelerate the rollout of accessible, eco-friendly fuel options across the country.
