TotalEnergies, in partnership with OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), has announced the signing of significant agreements to develop 300 MW of renewable energy projects in Oman. This initiative is part of TotalEnergies' multi-energy strategy in the Sultanate. The renewable electricity generated will be supplied to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the leading exploration and production company in the country, under long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).

TotalEnergies and OQAE will jointly lead the development of three renewable energy projects, holding 49% and 51% shares, respectively. These projects include North Solar, a 100 MW solar plant located in Saih Nihaydah in northern Oman, and two 100 MW wind projects, Riyah-1 and Riyah-2, situated in the Amin and West Nimr fields in southern Oman. Construction is set to begin in early 2025, with electricity production expected to start in late 2026. These projects will collectively generate over 1.4 TWh of renewable electricity annually.

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies, expressed excitement about the development of these projects, noting that they represent another step in the company’s multi-energy strategy in Oman. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with OQAE and the significance of providing long-term renewable electricity to PDO, supporting Oman’s energy transition.

Dr. Aflah Al Hadhrami, Managing Director of PDO, emphasized the importance of these agreements in supporting Oman’s Vision 2040, which aims to diversify energy sources for sustainable energy security. He also pointed to PDO’s previous initiatives, such as the Amin Solar IPP Power Plant, which have played a key role in the country’s energy transition. Ms. Najla Zuhair Al Jamali, Chief Executive of OQAE, also highlighted the importance of the partnership in advancing Oman’s clean energy transition and achieving PDO’s decarbonization goals.
