TotalEnergies and STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a leading global semiconductor company, have signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply renewable electricity to STMicroelectronics' facilities in France. The contract, which began in January 2025, covers a total volume of 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of clean energy, marking a significant step toward the company's sustainability goals.
Under this agreement, TotalEnergies will provide STMicroelectronics with renewable power, including a guarantee of origin, sourced from two newly developed wind and solar farms with a combined capacity of 75 megawatts. This energy will be delivered as a constant "baseload" supply, making it the first such 15-year contract in France. The deal was made possible due to the environmental and community benefits of the renewable projects.
Sophie Chevalier, Senior Vice President of Flexible Power & Integration at TotalEnergies, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating, "We are delighted to sign this agreement with STMicroelectronics, which demonstrates our ability to provide long-term and innovative clean firm power solutions tailored to our customers' needs." She emphasized TotalEnergies’ commitment to supporting the tech industry’s decarbonization efforts.
Geoff West, EVP and Chief Procurement Officer at STMicroelectronics, underscored the role of PPAs in the company’s sustainability strategy. "This first PPA in France marks another important step towards ST’s goal of becoming carbon neutral in its operations by 2027, including the sourcing of 100% renewable energy," he said. He also noted that similar agreements have already been established in Italy and Malaysia, reinforcing the company’s commitment to clean energy.
