Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dr. Biteko, has directed the Ministry of Energy executives to establish a special unit for the management of Clean Cooking Energy to effectively implement the Clean Cooking Energy agenda, ensuring it goes beyond just preparing and participating in conferences but also leads to concrete actions.
He made these remarks on March 18, 2024, in Mwanza, while opening the Fifth Meeting of the Ministry of Energy Employees' Council, specifically aimed at reviewing and approving the draft budget of the Ministry of Energy for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
"President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is the champion of the Clean Cooking Energy agenda in Africa, so the ministry must develop an institutional and systemic strategy to achieve this agenda so that its implementation is not just a matter of enthusiasm," said Dr. Biteko.
Additionally, Dr. Biteko stated that the Ministry of Energy has a responsibility to transition the country from using fuel to using natural gas (CNG) by creating an environment that will reduce oil dependence and enable the country to sustain itself using compressed natural gas (CNG). He therefore directed Ministry officials to oversee the implementation of this issue.
Regarding Ministry of Energy employees, Dr. Biteko reminded them to work diligently while the ministry looks into their entitlements, including incentives.
He emphasized that Ministry of Energy employees have a duty to serve Tanzanians as they have been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the Energy Sector on their behalf, so they should fulfill that duty.
He also called on the Ministry of Energy to have a system in place to reward employees who perform well in their work and to recognize and take appropriate action against those who are lazy and do not serve the people professionally and in a timely manner.
Furthermore, he cautioned those in authority within the Ministry and its institutions not to take pride in their positions for worship and glorification because the positions they hold are temporary. Therefore, they should build more friends than enemies and focus on serving the people to avoid tarnishing the performance of the Ministry of Energy and its institutions.
